about the artist
Kristen Maize was born and raised on the island of St. John- a life spent on the water and immersed in the tropical surroundings. After attending college in San Diego (formal art direction was from the art department at the University of San Diego) she returned home, and worked in the science field, dedicating much of her time to her passion for painting.
The West Indian culture, exquisite landscapes, and the flora & fauna, all influence her work, everything from color choice to subject matter. Working predominately with oils, Kristen paints from her studio inspired mainly by photos and memories. While her paintings focus on a variety of subjects, her dedication to visual imagery and color can be seen in her most recent work. Kristen is currently traveling abroad hoping to “expand on her love of capturing Virgin Island’s culture and scenery by exploring other cultures, colors, and landscapes.”
Kristen’s artwork can be viewed at Bajo El Sol Gallery in St. John and Mango Tango Galleries in St. Thomas.
